How it works

The Christian Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) positions the Church as first responders to their local communities in times of crisis when the need extends further than the spiritual. CERF allows for local churches to be at the forefront of local and national disaster responses without having to be an expert in such responses or needing to manage the operations and supply chain. Churches simply need to make themselves available and engage as resource, infrastructure and distribution partners.

The programme expertise, supply chain management and integrity of implementation are ensured by our partner, International NGO, Joint Aid Management, founded by Ubuntu Award-winning South Africans Peter and Ann Pretorius in 1984, that reaches over 1.3 million daily beneficiaries in South Africa and six other African countries.

The Role of the Church

There is no greater time for the Church to extend the hand and heart of Jesus than during a crisis, with CERF your Church can do this as a;

Redemption Partner: Redeem beneficiary vouchers in exchange for food hampers if your church is in a distribution area
And/or

Packing Partner: Receive bulk supply and use your members and infrastructure to pack food hampers to be sent to redemption partners
And/or

Support Partner: Mobilise your congregation to sponsor food hamper vouchers on behalf of vulnerable families

The Role of Our Implementation Partner

CERF’s COVID-19 Response

CERF has united churches to respond to the national food crisis that is escalating as a result of the COVID- 19 Pandemic. We are critically aware of the fact that food insecurity could well take more lives than the virus itself. Our immediate target is to reach 100 000 families (+/- 450 000) people, with food, hygiene and COVID–19 education, expanding to two to three million people within as rapid a time frame as possible.

How the technology
works

By mobilising the assets of the church and the implementation expertise of JAM together with a custom voucher redemption app, the beneficiary can redeem an SMS voucher for a pre-packed food hamper, packed by church volunteers, from a church redemption point, free from overcrowding and other unsanitary risk factors.
